HP Recalls Laptop Batteries Over Fire Risk
Own an HP laptop? It may contain a defective battery that poses a burn down hazard and needs to exist replaced.
HP this week announced a worldwide voluntary condom think and replacement plan for about 52,600 laptop batteries, which "accept the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers." The think affects batteries shipped with certain HP Probook, x360, Envy, Pavilion, and HP 11 notebook computers, plus sure HP ZBook mobile workstations sold worldwide from December 2022 through December 2022. These products were sold via Best Purchase, Amazon, HP'south website, and other authorized dealers and sites. HP and its authorized service providers have as well sold the faulty batteries as accessories and provided them as replacements.
"HP has received eight reports of battery packs overheating, melting, or charring, including 3 reports of property damage totaling $iv,500 with one written report of a pocket-sized injury involving a first caste burn to the hand," co-ordinate to an alarm from the US Consumer Product Condom Commission.
If you believe your auto may be afflicted, head to HP'south call back folio and download the HP Bombardment Program Validation Utility to check.
"It is extremely important to check whether your battery is affected," HP wrote on its recall folio, calculation that validation "generally takes less than 30 seconds."
If the validation tool indicates your bombardment is affected, HP said you should "discontinue use of the battery immediately past placing it in Battery Rubber Mode." When enabled, Battery Safety Mode will belch the battery and disable charging until the bombardment is replaced. You tin still safety use your laptop when it'south in Battery Safety Mode past connecting it to an HP power adapter.
Many of the affected batteries are "internal to the system, which ways they are not customer replaceable," HP said. If you're affected by this call up, you'll need to accept your machine to an authorized technician who will swap out the battery at no cost.
